Paid newsletters – a new way to monetize your content

Paid newsletters are a new, great way to monetize your work as a content creator. It’s not so popular yet but, every day, someone starts a new paid mail newsletter. Why it’s becoming more and more popular each day? I will try to answer this question in this post.

Paid newsletter – key concepts

Paid newsletters are a way to monetize your content. If you are sending free mails and peoples want to read them, it’s a great way to start making money on your content. You should prepare the best content about your niche and send it to your followers. Email is a more personal form of contact than a blog post or some social media post. Paid newsletters have a higher open rate. That means you can reach more peoples with the paid newsletter, and you will build a more engaged community. There are no cons. Almost.

Why it’s growing so fast?

Paid newsletters are getting more popular each day. Every day I hear about some new paid mailing. A lot of people see that as a great way to have better communication with their community. It’s great because it allows you to earn money and spent more time polishing your mailings. You can write almost anything. You do not depend on any social media. No one can’t ban your mailing. You can share your opinion or knowledge. It has a lot of cons.

Paid newsletters – how to start?

It’s really simple. You have a lot of possibilities. In my opinion, you should start with a free newsletter. Why? Because you have to validate your content. If some people read your mailing, then prepare a paid version with more or better content for paying clients. This is the best way to start with paid newsletters. Of course, it’s not only one but seems to work best, in my opinion.

Prepare landing page

First, you have to prepare a landing page to inform peoples what your mailing is about. It should be very simple and self-explaining. I’m not the best at landing pages. But I prefer to put a short explanation and some catching slogans on landing. The client has to know what he will get if he will sign for your newsletter. What pros coming from giving you his email address. It should be a brief overview of the benefits. Then make sure that your landing provides an easy way to sign for your mailing. If you think that is obvious, you are right. But you’d be surprised how many landing pages don’t have a working sign-in form.

Choose mailing provider

Maybe it should be the first point on my list, but I prefer to choose an email service provider after I have some landing and then connect it. But most ESP allows you to create a landing page in their service, so it depends on you, what you choose. Be aware that each ESP has some pros and cons. Most popular are:

There is far more services allows you to create your own newsletter. I showed you only a few I had tested. Take a look on this or search for your own.

Connect your ESP with the landing page

It should be pretty easy. ESP should provide you a few ways to connect your mailing subscription form with a landing page. It can be some javascript code injected on your website or a plugin for WordPress from ESP. Finally, you can create a whole landing page in your provider solution. It’s not important. Just remember to test it a few times. It is working correctly? Did new subscribers showing in your mailing system? Check it before launch.

Collect emails and create content

And that’s all for start purposes. You don’t need anything more. Now you should start sharing your landing page with your potential readers and collect some emails. I prefer to prepare some mailing sequences to ensure that new subscribers will get something to read since starting. It looks more proffesional for me.

Payment gateway

It’s not needed in the beginning. But if you want, you can create a payment gateway for your client’s convenience. But it’s not necessary. The first paid newsletters I signed up for works pretty fine without a payment gateway. How? After signing in, I get an email with payment data like account number, and I make payment on this number. That’s all. And it’s working.

Paid newsletters price

Last but not least is the price. It isn’t easy to decide what price should be asked. I found a lot of mailing which cost 9$ per month. I think is too low. You should value yourself and your content. I don’t know what your ideal reader is, but you should start valuing at around 15$. Of course, it’s only my advice, and you will do what suit’s you better. Avoid lowering your price. It’s not a solution. If no one wants to buy it, you should start with a free newsletter to convince your readers that the paid version will help them.

Paid newsletters – summary

And here is the end. It’s all about paid newsletters, I know. The idea is straightforward. You should get money for your content. Paid newsletters allow you to do that. It will help you to grow, and maybe it will become your way of living. You definitely should try this. If you have some questions about paid newsletters, ask in the comment section below.
